What’s your favorite movie/TV show? My favorite movie is Arthur Christmas. I’ve watched this movie countless times and I’ll never get bored — it makes me laugh every time! It’s a tradition for me to watch it every Christmas. My favorite TV show is a Scottish comedy called Still Game. Even though I’ve been in the U.S. for many years, I still love and identify with Scottish humor.

What’s your favorite sport to watch and play? My favorite sport to watch and play is soccer. Everyone on my dad’s side of the family supports the same team, the Glasgow Celtic. I’ve also been playing soccer since I was three — it’s the most enjoyable sport in the world!

Who's your favorite athlete? A soccer player named Kieran Tierney. He’s from Scotland like me and he joined the Celtic team when he was young. He’s very talented and hardworking; I see myself in his shoes and kind of want to be like him when I’m older.

How are you spending your summer? I'm helping out at a summer camp, teaching younger kids how to play soccer and all of the rules. It’s so great to see these kids developing and becoming better players. At the end of July, I’m heading to the West Coast! In Arizona, I’m going to Glendale and the Grand Canyon. In California, I’ll get to visit Los Angeles, Palm Springs, and the Joshua Tree National Park!

Tell us a fun fact about yourself! My fun fact is that I’m ambidextrous, so I can write with both hands. In soccer, I can also use both my feet to kick! It’s a talent that I’ve been gifted with, but I’ve had to work really hard on developing my left hand and right foot, so I’m quite proud of it.

Why are you excited to join Franklin this fall? I have three reasons. The first is that I’ve been going to Jersey City for school my whole life, which makes the transition easier. The second reason is that everyone at Franklin has been so welcoming and nice, which has been heartwarming. My third and final reason is that I don’t know yet what I want to be later in life. Unlike every other school, which might just prepare me for college, I feel like Franklin’s going to help me decide my life path and what I want to be when I grow up, so I’m looking forward to that!

Which medium do you most prefer when creating art? I like creating charcoal sketches, as well as watercolor paintings!

Tell us about your love for fashion and dance. As for fashion, I really like looking for vintage clothing because it's more original. Plus the quality is often good, the clothing is long-lasting, and it also feels more personal because you can curate these one-of-a-kind items. As for dance, I'm very much focused on ballet, but I have tried nearly all the different styles over the years, like jazz, hip-hop, and tap. Right now, ballet is the most fun for me.

What’s your favorite movie/TV show? I only watch TV shows for background noise, so I mostly just put on Gilmore Girls! I watch movies mainly for the cinematography and enjoy the color schemes that the directors use. One of my favorites is Once Upon a Time in Hollywood; and I also really like anything directed by Sofia Coppola.

How are you spending your summer? Well, it's not summer for me because I'm living in Sydney, Australia, right now, where it's winter! But school just finished, so I have a three-week break, which I’m spending going out with friends and thrifting.

Why are you excited to join Franklin this fall? I'm excited to join because I feel it will be an opportunity to meet new people. I’m also ready for a change!

What’s your favorite movie/TV show? My favorite TV show is Friends because I enjoy the comedy as well as watching the characters throughout their daily lives.

What do you want to create in Franklin’s makerspace? I'm excited to print 3D objects that can move. For example, a 3D-printed rocket that can actually fly!

How did you become interested in architecture and design? I started becoming interested in architecture and design when I started to “look up.” What I mean by this is that I used to walk through Jersey City and look up at the buildings and notice the shape of them, how they're placed on the street, how many windows a building had, and whether it was historic or modern. And then I started to notice the functionality of buildings and their features; for example, how much light the windows catch or how much space a specific house would have on a specific street. Then I started to draw the buildings. I would sketch out what I thought it looked like and started getting interested in perspective drawings. When you draw something from a specific perspective, it can look completely different than if you were to draw it from another perspective. I'm excited to explore this passion of mine at Franklin!

How are you spending your summer? This summer, I'm staying around Jersey City and working as a camp counselor for four to five-year-olds. I'm having so much fun getting to know the kids and meeting new people through my job!

Tell us a fun fact about yourself! I love creating things and I love art. I can make almost anything into art! An artist I’m especially inspired by is Peter Hart. He makes pasta art. I like what he does because he defies the standards of what art should be and that inspires me a lot.

Why are you excited to join Franklin this fall? I'm excited to meet new people and have new academic opportunities. I'm especially excited for the micro-courses because of the wide variety of topics to dive deeper into!

What do you like to read? I love reading fiction and the news! Currently, my favorite book is Siege and Storm by Leigh Bardugo.

What are your hobbies? I love to write, read, and play with my 10-year old sister, Reya. I’m also a competitive swimmer and have been swimming, for at least an hour every day, for over 11 years. Decorated Olympian Katie Ledecky is my role model — I want to follow in her footsteps and attend Stanford!

How are you spending your summer? This summer, I’m building my online platform called Do-Gooders, swimming, doing math, publishing “Ruhie’s News for Kids,” and spending time with my grandparents.
